Sports News of the Day (6/19)

Rory McIlroy might have said he was a little nervous going into the final round of the US Open at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
He had an eight stroke lead going into Sunday, but because of his Masters meltdown, you can never know what to expect from McIlroy. However, McIlroy got the job done and is now the 2011 US Open Champion. He shot a 69 (-2) for the day, and ended the tournament at -16, eight strokes ahead of Jason Day. This is the 22 year old's first major, but performances like this could lead to the first of many.
   Other notable performances-Lee Westwood (70, -6), YE Yang (71, -6)-tied for 3rd, Sergio Garcia (70, -5)-tied for 7th, Louis Oosthuizen (67, -4)-tied for 9th, Steve Stricker (70, -1)-tied for 19th, Retief Goosen (68, +1), Dustin Johnson (70, +1)- tied for 23rd, Rory Sabbatini (71, +2) Zach Johnson (74, +2)-tied for 30th,  Anthony Kim (70, +7), Phil Mickelson (71, +7)- tied for 54th
The Cincinnati Reds avoid a sweep against the Toronto Blue Jays today, winning 2-1 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning, when Aaron Hill hit a solo home run. The Reds responded right back in the sixth with a two run homer by Miguel Cairo to take a 2-1 lead.
Bronson Arroyo (6-6) takes the win; pitching eight innings, giving up one run, while striking out five. Francisco Cordero earned the save, his 15th of the year.

For the Reds, Joey Votto went 3-4, Jay Bruce had two hits as well as Fred Lewis. For Toronto, Yunel Escobar and Jose Bautista both had a hit.
Cincinnati (38-35) now plays a three-game home-stand against the New York Yankees, while Toronto (36-36) plays a three game series at Atlanta.
