Diaz vs GSP is Official

Georges St Pierre
Nick Diaz
The welterweight super-fight between Georges St Pierre (GSP) (MMA 22-2, UFC 16-2) and Nick Diaz (MMA 25-7, UFC 6-4) is officially set for UFC 137 on October 29 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
St Pierre is currently the UFC Welterweight Champion who is considered one of the best fighters in the world pound-for-pound. St Pierre has defended his title six times against notable contenders such as Dan Hardy, Josh Koscheck, and most recently former Strikeforce phenom Jake Shields. He has other wins against BJ Penn (twice), Matt Hughes (twice) and Jon Fitch. GSP has some of the best wrestling skills in MMA with his rapid takedowns and solid ground and pound which makes up for his lack of finishing fights. St Pierre also has tremendous heart and stamina, and both will be have been seen when fighting Diaz.
Diaz is currently the Strikeforce's (sister brand of the UFC) Welterweight Champion who will have to forfeit that title for joining the UFC to make this fight happen. Diaz defended his title three times against fighters such as KJ Noons and Paul Daley and has other wins against Frank Shamrock and Robbie Lawler. Diaz is a very versatile fighter who can finish opponents both on the ground with submissions or standing up with his punch power.
This will be a very explosive fight with a mix of both stand-up and wrestling. GSP is certainly the favorite going into the fight with his resume and the fact that he is one of the best fighters pound-for pound. Diaz does have serious heart though and will certainly make this a fight.
I believe this fight has just as much hype, if not more, than GSP's fight against Jake Shields, and could be considered a candidate for "Fight of the Year".
Be sure to come back for more news regarding this super-fight!
